Welcome to our charming rustic lakeside cottage on Lake Owassa in Northwest New Jersey. The cottage (The Woodbine) dates back to 1921. You need not drive far from New York City to find a great vacation spot. On the other hand, we are no more than 1 1/2 hours from the city. Our cottage is available as a weekly rental from July 1-September 10. We are available for three night stays during other months that the cottage is open. The Woodbine is lake front and directly connected to our private dock, only 25 feet from the front porch, via a shaded wooden path. Enjoy swimming, canoeing, kayaking or rowing in the boats at the cottage. There is a great screened-in wrap-around porch with a large dining area, an indoor dining room for more intimate dinners and an eat-in kitchen. All of the bedrooms have vaulted ceilings and can comfortably accommodate two guests. One of the bedrooms actually has three single beds. The view across the lake is of the Kittatiny Mountains and the Appalachian Trail. It is wonderful to enjoy dinner on the porch overlooking the lake as the sun sets on the ridge. We have vacationed around the country in homes and condos and know what kinds of things are important to renters. Most important is a clean space and a home where you don't need to bring along sheets and towels in your luggage! Plenty of dishes and mugs for meals, towels for the lake, extra linens and blankets, listings of local restaurants, shops for "antique-ing", rainy day activities list for adults or kids (including lots of games and videos/DVDs in the cupboard). The house is also child-friendly, with plenty of room on the porches for playing. Fishing is also fun at the lake as people often pull out good sized bass and pickerel. The lake is stocked and monitored for any conditions with water quality.. Which means there are NO issues with water quality. There are many festivals and the New Jersey State Fair (you can visit their website to check out the dates) that are held at the Sussex County Fairgrounds which is only 5 miles from the cottage. Some of the more popular are the Crawfish Festival (Hugely popular with wonderful food and music!), Garden Shows, AKC shows, horse shows and of course, the REAL NJ State Fair. The cottage is heated and available as a 3-season rental, from mid April-October 31st, mostly on a weekly basis. We have a three night minimum from April 20-June 30 and September 10-October 31. The stone cottage sits on an acre of beautiful land sloping down toward the private dock on Paulinskill Lake in Stillwater, NJ. Only an hour and 15 minutes away from Manhattan (with an easy bus or train commute), it features a sun room facing the lake, a tiny, stand-alone cabin for writing or reading, and a large lawn and firepit overlooking the lake. Inside, there are two big bedrooms, one upstairs for at least two kids, and another downstairs with a queen bed and a changing room. A third, smaller bedroom has a trundle bed and a closet. The kitchen and bathroom are newly renovated, with a new stove, washer and dryer, dishwasher, and a new whirlpool soaking tub. If it gets cold, the house is fully heated and features a wood pellet stove and a stone fireplace. The wifi works beautifully and is extremely quick. Outside, take out the kayaks, relax or fish from the shaded dock, play tennis or basketball at the lake association courts, go for a long bike ride on the rail trail, dive off the dock or swim at the beach with lifeguards, and rinse off in the new outdoor shower. There is so much to do, it's really a fun place to be in the summer. We can't make it out there this summer, but we want to make sure someone takes full advantage of our cottage. Line the bucket with a CleanWaste bag supplied at the camp (or another appropriate plastic bag) prior to use. Afterwards, simply tie the bag up and place it in a trash bag. We got this idea from bathrooms used on NASA spaceships, and we've used the Tentrr Loo countless times ourselves- don't worry! Showers: Every Signature campsite comes with a Coleman Sun Shower. The sun shower has a reservoir that holds up to 5 gallons of water, potentially enough for multiple showers. It's constructed of heat-locking material that warms the water when it's left in the sun, even on cool days.

The small great gorge community pool is not available either, only for residents now due to covid. This is a very uncertain time for travel, so we suggest reaching out to the activities you'd like to engage in (like spas, waterpark, mountain biking etc) ahead of travel prior to booking and setting up back up plans for activities that can be done in this phase. For amazing outdoor activities we suggest checking out some of our incredible lakes and national parks in the area. We have a few gorgeous lakes such as wawayanda, high point, and highland lakes. Wawayanda and high point have swimming areas (contact for covid updates) and Greenwood lake is also beautiful. Both Wawayanda and Greenwood lake have kayak rentals (contact them for latest updates). We also are near the appalachian trail, beautiful farms like pennings, and Dingman Falls - a stunning waterfall - is roughly a half hour away. In our community we have a golf course.
